What to check when testing an Android app
- Mention your device and Android version — Behavior genuinely differs across Android versions and manufacturer skins. "Crashes on open" is far more useful as "crashes on open, Pixel 7, Android 14."
- Look at what permissions it asks for — Does the list of permissions actually match what the app claims to do? A flashlight app asking for contacts access is worth flagging — that is genuinely useful signal for the owner.
- Background it, then come back — Switch to another app for a minute, then return. Does state survive, or does it reset? This is one of the most common things indie Android apps get wrong.
- Check notification behavior — If the app sends notifications, do they arrive, and do they behave sensibly when tapped?

- Do I need a Google Play Store link, or will I get an APK? Either happens. If it is a direct APK, you will need to allow installing from unknown sources once in your phone's settings — that is a normal Android security prompt for sideloaded apps, not a warning sign specific to this app.
- Do I need a specific Android version? The app's listing will say if it needs a minimum version. Most indie apps target recent Android releases, but check before starting.
